MISSION
The Cooperative aims to bring back the glamour and prestige of the
Pearl Industry in Japan which was once lost because of the deterioration
of quality pearls brought about by unregulated pearl importation.
Due to economic depression, maturing knowledge of the society, and
the growing demand for pearls, he industry had to resort to pearl
importation to be able to cater to these various wants. However, ince
these imported pearls are cultivated from other countries, the standards
of which are different rom Japan, quality pearls became difficult
to find. As a consequence, pearl consumers lost their trust and confidence
in the pearl industry. They've started to divert their attention to
other lines of jewelry and accessories which gave strength to the
pearl competitors.
With this in mind, the Cooperative provides another channel to welcome
other options to help the pearl industry become more dynamic.
A Workshop, consisting of 7 pearl wholesalers, work hand-in-hand to
attain a common objective. The Workshop exchanges information as to
the different ways to promote the pearl industry, to improve its social
and economic status, as well as solutions to some major problems of
the industry. Its goal is to contribute to the growth of the industry
by inspecting the quality of pearls, purchasing only quality pearls,
and selling only quality pearls. Also, it provides information and
educates prospective sellers and buyers.
